Industrial & high-purity nitrogen since 1947

Nitrogen Gas Supplier & Manufacturer in India

IIGAS supplies industrial and high-purity nitrogen gas in high-pressure cylinders and cylinder banks, manufactured to IS 1947, and builds on-site PSA nitrogen plants for customers whose consumption has outgrown cylinders. Supplying industry since 1947.

Nitrogen grades and purity

Nitrogen (N₂) is chemically inert at ordinary temperatures, which is exactly why industry uses so much of it — to displace oxygen, to blanket anything that must not oxidise, and to carry heat away without reacting with what it touches.

IIGAS supplies nitrogen against IS 1947 for industrial grade, with higher-purity grades available where the process demands it. Purity is documented on despatch, not assumed.

GradeTypical purityWhere it is used
Industrial nitrogen99.5%+Purging, pressure testing, general blanketing, pneumatic actuation
High-purity nitrogen99.9% – 99.99%Heat treatment, bright annealing, electronics assembly, laser cutting
Ultra-high-purity nitrogen99.999%Analytical instruments, carrier gas for GC, semiconductor and research use
Food-grade nitrogenTo food-contact requirementModified-atmosphere packaging, beverage blanketing, coffee and snack packing

If you are unsure which grade your process actually needs, tell us the application rather than a purity figure — over-specifying purity is one of the most common ways a gas budget is wasted.

What industry uses nitrogen for

  • Purging and inerting vessels, pipelines and reactors before maintenance or start-up
  • Blanketing flammable liquids, resins and edible oils to keep oxygen out
  • Assist gas for laser cutting stainless steel and aluminium — nitrogen gives an oxide-free cut edge
  • Bright annealing and controlled-atmosphere heat treatment
  • Modified-atmosphere packaging (MAP) and beverage blanketing at food-grade quality
  • Pressure testing and leak testing where an inert medium is required
  • Tyre inflation, pneumatic actuation and instrument gas where dry inert gas is specified
  • Purge gas for acetylene and other flammable-gas plants — where air must never be used

How nitrogen is supplied

PackagingTypical contentSuits
47 L high-pressure cylinder~6 m³ at 150 kg/cm²Workshops, labs, intermittent purging, small-batch use
Cylinder bank / quad (6, 12 or 16 cylinders)Multiples of cylinder contentContinuous draw, laser cutting, packaging lines
Manifolded bank with changeover panelContinuousProcesses that cannot tolerate an interruption in supply
On-site PSA nitrogen plantContinuous, generated on siteHigh steady consumption where cylinder logistics have become the bottleneck

When a customer is taking more than a bank a week, on-site generation usually costs less per cubic metre than delivered cylinders. We will say so if that is what your figures show — including when it means selling you a plant instead of gas.

Cylinder identification and safety

Under IS 4379, an industrial nitrogen cylinder is French grey with a black neck band, and is marked with the gas name and formula. Getting this right matters on a mixed site — grey with no band is compressed air, not nitrogen.

The serious hazard with nitrogen is not fire or toxicity but asphyxiation. Nitrogen is odourless and colourless, it displaces oxygen without any warning to the person breathing it, and it is heavier work to detect than most people expect. Confined spaces that have been nitrogen-purged must be gas-tested and certified before entry — never entered on the assumption that the purge has cleared.

  • Store and transport cylinders upright, secured, with valve caps fitted
  • Ventilate any area where nitrogen is used in quantity; monitor oxygen in confined or low-lying spaces
  • Never enter a purged vessel without a valid gas test and entry permit
  • Use only regulators and hoses rated for the service pressure; never adapt fittings between gases
  • Keep cylinders away from heat and out of direct sun

Why buy nitrogen from IIGAS

IIGAS has manufactured and supplied industrial gases since 1947, and we sit on the Bureau of Indian Standards committees CHD 6 (Industrial Gases) and MED 16 (Gas Cylinders) — we manufacture to the standards those committees write.

We also build gas plants, which changes the conversation. If cylinders are the right answer we supply cylinders; if your consumption says you should be generating nitrogen on site, we will build you the plant and tell you what it will actually cost to run.

Frequently asked questions

Industrial nitrogen at 99.5%+ to IS 1947, high-purity grades from 99.9% to 99.99%, ultra-high-purity at 99.999% for analytical use, and food-grade nitrogen for packaging. Purity is documented on despatch. Tell us the application and we will recommend the grade.
Nitrogen cylinder pricing depends on grade, cylinder size, quantity, whether you are on a cylinder-rental or customer-owned basis, and delivery location. Send us your monthly requirement and location for a written quotation.
A standard 47 L water-capacity cylinder charged to 150 kg/cm² holds approximately 6 m³ of nitrogen at atmospheric conditions. Cylinder banks are supplied in multiples of this for continuous draw.
Under IS 4379, industrial nitrogen cylinders are French grey with a black neck band, marked with the gas name and formula. Note that French grey with no band indicates compressed air — the band is the distinguishing mark.
Nitrogen is non-flammable and non-toxic, but it is an asphyxiant. It displaces oxygen silently, with no smell or colour to warn you. The real risk is entering a nitrogen-purged vessel or a poorly ventilated low-lying space. Always gas-test and permit confined spaces before entry.
It comes down to steady consumption. Below roughly a cylinder bank a week, cylinders are usually simpler and cheaper. Above that, on-site PSA generation generally costs less per cubic metre and removes the delivery dependency. Send us your consumption and we will run the comparison.
Yes — food-grade nitrogen for modified-atmosphere packaging, beverage blanketing and coffee and snack packing, supplied to food-contact requirements with documented quality.
We supply across India from our facilities, with established delivery in West Bengal, Assam and the North-East, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and Madhya Pradesh. Tell us your location and volume.
