The short answer: no, argon is not flammable
Argon (Ar) is not flammable and does not support combustion. It is a noble gas — chemically inert — so it will not burn, will not explode, and will not react with the materials around it. That inertness is exactly why argon is used as a shielding and blanketing gas in welding and metallurgy.
It is also colourless, odourless and tasteless, which matters for safety: you cannot see or smell it, so a leak gives no warning.
The real hazard: asphyxiation
Because argon is denser than air (about 1.4 times), it can collect in pits, tanks, trenches and other low or confined spaces, displacing the air. It does not poison you — it simply pushes oxygen out, and a low-oxygen atmosphere can cause rapid unconsciousness with no warning. This asphyxiation risk, not fire, is the danger to manage with argon.
