Why acetylene is stored in DA cylinders
Acetylene cannot be safely compressed in an ordinary cylinder — it can decompose under pressure. Instead it is dissolved in acetone or DMF held in a porous mass that fills the cylinder, which lets the gas be stored and transported safely at working pressure. This is why an acetylene cylinder is called a dissolved-acetylene (DA) cylinder.
IIGAS fills DA cylinders correctly charged with solvent over a sound porous mass, so you get the right amount of acetylene, a safe cylinder and consistent gas flow on site.
Filled, tested and documented
- ✓Dissolved-acetylene cylinders for welding, cutting and process use
- ✓Charged with acetone or DMF over a porous mass for safe storage
- ✓Correct fill, leak-tested and ready for oxy-acetylene use
- ✓Manufactured and tested to the relevant Indian Standards (e.g. IS 308, IS 8451)
- ✓Single cylinders, banks and quads for higher demand
- ✓Documented quality and traceability for audits
From the gas to the cylinder — one source
Because IIGAS generates the acetylene, purifies and dries it, compresses it and fills the cylinders, we control purity and fill end to end — and we also build the acetylene plants, generators and DA cylinder filling systems for customers who want to fill their own. Whether you need cylinders supplied, or a plant to fill them, talk to us.
Handled correctly, DA cylinders are safe and dependable; see our guidance on handling and storing acetylene cylinders, and ask us about flashback arrestors for safe oxy-acetylene work.
