OX = Oxidiser.

Hazard identification (GHS)

  • May cause or intensify fire; strong oxidiser (H270).
  • Contains gas under pressure; may explode if heated (H280).
  • Vigorously accelerates combustion; materials that do not normally burn may ignite in oxygen-enriched air.

First-aid measures

Inhalation of pure product: remove to fresh air; get medical attention if effects persist. Oxygen enrichment of clothing is a serious fire risk — air out saturated clothing away from ignition sources before returning to a normal atmosphere.

Handling & storage

  • Keep oil, grease and all combustibles rigorously away from oxygen equipment — they ignite violently in oxygen.
  • Store cylinders upright, capped, below 52 °C, away from flammables and fuel gases (min 6 m or fire wall).
  • Use only oxygen-clean, oxygen-compatible regulators, valves and hoses; never lubricate fittings.
  • Open valves slowly to avoid adiabatic ignition.
